The Big Tent Celebration of Dr. Clint Smith will be on Wednesday, June 1 on the Stowe Center lawn.
In addition to the official awarding of the Stowe Prize for Dr. Smith's bestselling narrative nonfiction book, How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning With the History of Slavery Across America, the event will feature dinner, a reception, and a conversation between Dr. Smith and Linda Norris of The International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.
A landmark work of reflection and insight, How the Word Is Passed offers a new understanding of the hopeful role that memory and history can play in making sense of our country and how it came to be. It is a deeply researched and transporting exploration of the legacy of slavery and its imprint on centuries of American history.
