Although the United States spends more on healthcare than any other country, more than two women died during childbirth every day in the U.S., making the maternal mortality rate the highest in the world.

Join us Wednesday, March 23 at 6 PM for an important conversation as we kick off World Doula Week about birthing conditions behind bars and ways birth workers improve maternal health outcomes. Whether it be improving interpersonal interactions with the support of a birth worker, fighting for legislative changes, or funding projects from the top down, we can all find ways to improve maternal health in this country.
Hear from The LOHM Founder and CEO Topeka K. SamJennie Joseph, Founder and President of Commonsense Childbirth who is on the forefront of a shift to invest in studying and addressing racial disparities in maternal care and is one of the world’s most respected midwives and authorities on women’s health, Akhmiri Sekhr-Ra, Perinatal Education Trainer for the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery, and Halimah Washington, a justice-impacted birth worker and recent participant in our Doula Initiative.

We hope to see you in the virtual room!
