Only the Dead have seen the End of War

One cannot fail to be reminded of those famous words from Hindu scripture, chillingly delivered by the man who became known as the father of the Atomic Bomb, Robert Oppenheimer, after he realized its deadly potential to unleash appalling destructive power…

“Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds”

The war being raged against Ukraine – Putin’s War – is not a war that the vast majority of Russians support. Yet Putin wages this war in their name. The Russian people have been “duped” into war. Putin himself fits those words perfectly. He has become “the destroyer of worlds”…

We stand with our sisters and brothers in Ukraine and have echoed our solidarity in a small way through the integration of the Ukraine Colours in the Infinite Potential logo….

One is also reminded of the words that Krishna spoke to Arjuna when he realized he was going into a war to kill his brothers and sisters and friends. Arjuna did not want to fight and Krishna reminds Arjuna that “they are already dead”.

We live in an apparition!

We live in a world in which our sensory perception misperceives reality. At the deeper  quantum level, space and time collapse, one enters the space-less and the time-less – the eternal! So, Krishna’s statement to Arjuna resonates with the shock revelations of Quantum Physics. Krishna is speaking to the reality we misperceive, hindered by our lack of moral intention and by the apparition that the egoic mind lays before us. David Bohm confirms this, “Not only do we transform as eternity unfolds in us, but also eternity may transform, as it returns to itself in a richer way through our MEANINGFUL PARTICIPATION!” Put simply, we have it within our power to influence outcomes positively through our meaningful participation. This also supports one of the fundamental laws in Hindu scripture, the law of Karma.

Bohm placed a lot of emphasis on the word “MEANING". And this word has special relevance right now in relation to what is happening in Ukraine.

The word "Meaning" embodies 'significance, value and purpose'Significance is like a sign that points to something. And we are strongly moved when we feel that something has VALUE. We could say if something has significance we can sense its value and that in turn generates a strong sense of PURPOSE. These three elements, significance, value and purpose are key features of life. Life would have little value if it lacked meaning - for then it would lack significance and we would generate little energy of purpose. We could say that without significance, value and purpose life would have no meaning at all, it would be pointless or meaningless - and the root of much of its current malaise, including the aggression being waged on the people of Ukraine.

SPIRIT, has the potential to bring transformation and transcendence. The human family has a natural orientation towards spirituality. But as civilization developed, we lost that contact with our essential nature. Life became fragmented. Science promoted mechanism and reductionism.

Fortunately though, it is becoming clear from all the new developments in science, especially the revelations within quantum mechanics, that humanity may be evolving towards a more coherent wholeness. This applies across so many spectrums, in spirituality, in science and in the arts. Science itself is also showing signs that it can be understood as showing the limits of mechanism and reductionism.

Without MEANING our society will fall apart. How we act is very much determined by what everything means to us. Meanings of even greater subtlety can move us to see beyond this apparition and point us towards a new way of seeing, a new way of perceiving…

The war visited upon the people of Ukraine is wholly devoid of any meaning. It is pointless, has no value, no purpose.

The human species is now presented with a challenge to its very existence. Can we exist in unity without destroying the planet through ecological disaster, climate change and senseless war? We urgently need to regain our sense of common mutuality and equip ourselves to meet these challenges which are of a worldwide nature. This depends on a widespread sharing of meaning and the creation of a coherent culture which could eventually be planetary. Let’s be optimistic!

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world”
