Passing the Protect Act in 2022

StopSolitaryCT have invited you and others to attend their webinar on Monday, Jan. 17th (MLK Day) from 5:00 - 7:30 pm, "PASSING THE PROTECT ACT IN 2022," on zoom: https://yale.zoom.us/j/94357833079. See details below:

Join Stop Solitary CT on MLK Day to learn why we still urgently need the PROTECT Act and how you can help it become law in 2022.

Last year, Governor Lamont vetoed the PROTECT Act and issued an Executive Order that reduced the transformative prisoners' rights legislation to a few superficial changes to DOC policy. Several months into the changes, it is clearer than ever that the Executive Order fails incarcerated people in Connecticut. Most disturbingly, Stop Solitary CT has received reports that some DOC facilities have repeatedly imposed total lockdowns, which the governor's Order allows, for multiple days per week. These excessive lockdowns exploit a vaguely-worded "emergency" exception to keep incarcerated people in isolation whenever and for however long DOC wants.

The webinar will feature a conversation between legislators, advocates, and formerly incarcerated individuals about the 2022 PROTECT Act campaign. Among the speakers are Representative Robyn Porter of New Haven and Melvin Medina, National Campaign Strategist for the American Civil Liberties Union. Individuals recently released from prison will also share firsthand knowledge of conditions in Connecticut prisons over recent weeks and months.

Thanks!
