Good Day, Race Talk Family.
The healing powers of water are well-known to us. What is unknown to some is the legacy of ancient aquatic cultures of the African Diaspora, that has been lost due to racist practices that deprived many people of color of their access to water. As a result, drowning rates for blacks are significantly higher than whites, historically, though aquatic activities such as cliff diving, surfing, boating and swimming were intrinsic to BIPOC culture well before this country was founded.
Please join us on Wednesday January 26th at Noon EST to learn how Diversity in Aquatics Director, Mr. Thaddeus Gamory and Award-winning Film Maker, Ms. Cathleen Dean are working to establish equity in aquatics and heal race-based trauma through mindfulness and restorative water-based practices.
