Thumbs down to Connecticut’s struggles to get its youngest eligible residents vaccinated against COVID-19. Children aged 5-11 have been able to get the vaccine since Nov. 2, yet the number of fully vaccinated in that age group is at a pretty dismal 22 percent. The state reported that as of Thursday, 39 percent of kids in the group had received at least one shot. As Dr. Brita Roy, director of population health for Yale Medicine, said, “22 percent is really low.” That would be true under any conditions, but it happens to be at a time when the number of infected children in hospitals is rising.
