A "Call to Action" on International Human Rights Day
Stop Solitary Connecticut (SSCT) will host a call to action bringing together people from across the state to push to have the PROTECT Act signed into law in the upcoming legislative session. The event will include a screening of a documentary “Up The Ridge” and feature a panel of people recently released from CT prisons. The conversation will draw from their experiences on the inside of Connecticut prisons and highlight the need for independent oversight over the Department of Corrections. In 2019 the International Human Rights Commission against Torture cited CT prisons as “places where torture may be happening.” “The time to act is now. Every day another mind is being shattered, another spirit broken by this system,” said Barbara Fair, Steering Committee member. Other invited guests include legislators championing the signing of the PROTECT Act into law.
