News from the 59th Presidential Inaugural Committe

Good morning,

I hope you had a restful holiday season. I’m excited to write to you as the Senior Advisor of Public Engagement on the 59th Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC), the organization planning the Inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Thank you for all of your hard work over the past months - because of your support, we’ll be able to celebrate a historic Inauguration in just two weeks. While the Inauguration will look different this year, the PIC is committed to honoring our Inaugural traditions, showcasing the strength and resilience of our nation, and bringing Americans together to mark a new beginning for the country.

The PIC wanted to highlight three ways you can join us in celebrating the Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris:

Day of Service

We are excited to announce that on Monday, January 18, the PIC will host a National Day of Service for the Inauguration of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The PIC will partner with organizations across the country to host service events that focus on COVID-19 relief and address challenges that have been exacerbated by the pandemic, such as poverty, hunger, racial injustice, homelessness, mental health, and educational disparities.

You can sign up for our Day of Service and read more about this effort here.

COVID Memorial

PIC will host a memorial to remember and honor the lives lost to COVID-19 in cities and towns across the country on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. ET. A Washington, D.C. ceremony will feature a lighting around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It will be the first-ever lighting around the Reflecting Pool to memorialize American lives lost.

PIC is inviting cities and towns around the country to join Washington, D.C. in illuminating buildings and ringing church bells at 5:30 p.m. ET in a national moment of unity and remembrance.

You can get involved by:

  • Encouraging your elected officials to light up city buildings

  • Asking clergy to ring bells

  • Lighting a candle in your window on January 19 at 5:30 p.m. ET to join in the countrywide moment of remembrance

Please fill out this form to confirm your participation.

Virtual Parade

On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris will be sworn in as the next President and Vice President of the United States, and they will lay out their vision and plans to beat the pandemic, build back our economy better, and unify our country.  In lieu of an in-person parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, the President will participate in a Pass in Review at the Capitol and a Presidential Escort at the White House, followed by a virtual parade, similar to the Democratic National Convention’s Roll Call Across America.

The virtual parade will feature diverse, dynamic performances in communities across the country. The parade will celebrate America’s heroes, highlight Americans from all walks of life in different states and regions, and reflect on the diversity, heritage, and resilience of the country as we begin a new American era and we are looking to our partners for concept ideas to be included in the virtual programming.

If you’d like to submit a concept for the virtual parade, please fill out this form. Please note that your submission does not guarantee usage -- our production team will reach out to you if they think it could be a possible fit.
