A major case challenging affirmative action is now one step closer to the U.S. Supreme Court. On Wednesday, we will present argument to the First Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a diverse coalition, including Black, Latino and Asian Americans students and alumni, in defense of Harvard University's race conscious admissions policy. I want to be clear -- this case has nationwide implications.
Join us in court tomorrow. You can watch David Hinojosa who directs our Education Project present argument to the court here at 2 p.m. ET. Watch a powerful video about our clients here.
There are currently 3 legal challenges that have been mounted and financed by Ed Blum - a former hedge fund manager who is the architect behind countless civil rights challenges. Blum is also financing litigation challenging affirmative action at the University of North Carolina and the University of Texas at Austin. We are involved in all 3 of these cases. Ed Blum’s long-standing agenda has been to eliminate laws and policies that seek to address our nation’s bitter legacy of racial discrimination.
Here is an astounding fact: Eliminating the consideration of race in Harvard’s process would cause the number of Black, Latinx, Native American, Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students to plummet by 50%.
We are on the front-lines of virtually every major civil rights threat faced by Black people and people of color across our nation today. If it's not voter suppression amid the pandemic, police violence or unchecked racial discrimination, it's attempts to strike down racial diversity. To sustain our fight at this consequential moment in our democracy, we need your help and partnership.
