Our Humanity an Instagram Live Discussion Series

Dear Tom,

On behalf of Crystal R. Emery, CEO and Founder of URU The Right to Be, Inc., we invite you to join us for honest and challenging conversation in the Our Humanity discussion series!

This week’s guests represent the intersection of systemic inequality, COVID-19, and the hidden economic truths of the pandemic. This is an opportunity to become familiar with some of the change-makers who remain under the radar. Together, these guests offer a rich range of perspectives as well as expert insight into what the intersection of racism, coronavirus, and economics really looks like.

Tomorrow, Wednesday at 12:00 PM EST, Crystal, an AAAS IF/THEN Ambassador, will sit down with Dr. Dorothy Jones-Davis, Executive Director of Nation of Makers. Dr. Jones-Davis offers the expertise of a scientist and the ambition of an innovative change-maker. She is also the moderator of the upcoming Surgeons General Roundtable on Health Disparities Coming to the Forefront in the Era of COVID-19 on September 24.

On Thursday at 7:00 PM EST, we will be joined by Charles Whatley, Director at Econmatrix and Citinomic. The outbreak of coronavirus has debilitated the American economy in an unprecedented way. Has this economic catastrophe had a disproportionate effect on Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities? Our government promises a swift recovery, but what can we really expect our economy to look like a year from now?

On Sunday at 2:00 PM EST with Robert Rooks, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance for Safety and Justice, we pivot science and economics to the brutal reality that between the pandemic and systemic racism, it is open season on Black and Brown communities. Communities of color have long been the victims of over-policing and mass incarceration; as a result, Black and Brown people represent an inordinate percentage of the American prison population. They may be isolated from society, but have the conditions of our prisons shielded them from the path of the virus?

Tune into @urutherighttobe this week and every Sunday at 2:00 PM, Wednesday at 12:00 PM, and Thursday at 7:00 PM EST.

If you want to make a worthwhile investment of your time and energy in learning about today’s world, this is your opportunity. Each conversation offers unique and valuable insights, and will equip you with the knowledge you need to become an agent for change starting right now.

Namaskar,
