Brooklyn For Peace joins in this Call for Action from the Movement for Black Lives

“What is happening in Minneapolis is a product of what has happened to Black people for decades…The killing of Black people at the hands of the police is taking place against the backdrop of a pandemic that is taking Black lives at an alarming rate. Our communities continue to be disinvested in and our people continue to be vulnerable to every harm in our society. This is why we call to defund police departments across the country and demand an investment of those resources into the needs of our communities.”

Sign M4B L’s petition calling on Congressional leadership to ensure that future action prioritizes our communities over corporation and pushes back against the use of militarization in our communities as a response to this crisis.

Capturing the Flag

RSVP for a virtual screening of Capturing the Flag, a documentary film on 2016 voter suppression and election protection in North Carolina, which offers a cautionary tale for the fast approaching 2020 election.

Along with the screening, there will have a panel discussion on current efforts to safeguard voting rights and how you can plug in this year.

The New York Presidential Primary Election is on!

The primaries for Congressional seats and others will still take place on Tuesday June 23. VOTING IS STILL AN IMPORTANT WAY TO GET YOUR VOICE HEARD IN NY. The Democratic Party primaries are especially important in Brooklyn for Congressional Rep and also for state senate and assembly offices.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Governor Cuomo has issued an Executive Order for every New Yorker to automatically receive a postage paid application for an absentee ballot. The application must be mailed or faxed to the Board of Elections by June 16, or you can do it on-line. You can apply now on-line at this link. Learn more about it here.

You must be registered to vote in this election in the party of your choice. If you are not registered to vote yet, or your address has changed, you can do so online by June 3. Application must be postmarked no later than May 29, 2020 and received by a board of elections no later than June 3, 2020 to be eligible to vote in the Primary. Do it NOW while you’re thinking about it! (It's already too late to change the party you are registered in, if you are already registered.)

Donations Needed for Downstate Hospital!

SUNY Downstate has been designated as Brooklyn's main hospital for treating cornavirus patientsl one of three such hospitals in New York state. It's located in central Brooklyn, a community that is medically underserved. CNN has reported on this hospital.
We’ve learned that Downstate is in need of all types of PPE (Protective Personal Equipment) and other medical equipment.
