Collecting COVID-19: NHM Calls for First-Person Accounts for Future Generations
New Haven, Conn. (April 27, 2020) – What do you want future generations to know about your life in the time of COVID-19? The New Haven Museum (NHM) is launching a new initiative, “Documenting the COVID-19 Crisis” and is asking Greater New Haven residents to share details on how COVID-19 is affecting them. “So often we look back and wish we could ask previous generations about the events they witnessed and lived through,” says the Museum’s executive director, Margaret Anne Tockarshewsky. “The stories and photos we capture today about our experiences will illustrate this unprecedented time for our children’s children and for New Haven residents for generations to come.”
Tockarshewsky adds that the narrative that gets written by future historians of the time of COVID-19 needs to include many voices. “Even though this is a moment shared by everyone, we are all experiencing it in vastly different ways. We need to collect as many perspectives as possible.” she explains. “We owe that to our future selves, to have a record of resilience that is truly reflective of the experiences of city residents at this time.”
