Join the NHSO Harmony Quartet for a FREE concert at the NHFPL Stetson Branch, where they play works by Florence Price, William Grant Still, and Antonin Dvorak. Dive deeper into the effect of race on the history of classical music with an interactive audience talk-back during the concert and a post-concert reception catered by Orchid Café at ConnCAT.
----------------------------------------------
Florence Price was the first female African American composer to have a symphonic work performed by a major symphony orchestra.
Although she composed hundreds of works, her genius was often overlooked due to racial and gender inequality, thus diminishing her
legacy. Recent discoveries of her unpublished work have led to new performances of her music in the US and abroad, but she is still not
the household name she deserves to be.
Join the NHSO for a week of concerts and conversation and help #MakeFlorenceFamous. A repeat of this program and talk-back will take place at Wilbur Cross High School on March 5, but it is not open to the public. Additional events include Dvorak & Price on Thursday, March 5 at Woolsey Hall.
