Learn about the efforts of the Maryland HBCU Advocates to ensure that Maryland’s historically black colleges and universities are as comparable and competitive as their non-HBCU counterparts.

Panel will feature Dr. Earl Richardson, President Emeritus of Morgan State, Chief Judge Bell, retired Chief Judge, Maryland Court of Appeals, Aisha Braveboy, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney and Delegate Charles Sydnor.

  • Enjoy an Urban Theatrical Presentation and Talkback session of the Voices of Carmen, examining escalating conflicts among young people

A Ride To Remember:
A Civil Rights Story

Educators can observe the MLK Day weekend with a Civil Rights Workshop for their young learners (K-5).  Educators will learn about the desegregation of Gwynn Oaks Amusement Park through the new picture book, A Ride to Remember.  Authors Amy Nathan and Sharon Langley will share their personal experiences of the amusement park protest and lessons connected with the children’s book. A book signing will follow.

Do you want to create black superheroes? This workshop is designed to teach the necessary skills to emerging artists. Learn how to enhance your drawing skills, tips for self-publishing and how to best present yourself as a professional in the expanding comic book industry. In conjunction with EMPOWERED! Black Action Figures, Superheroes and Collectibles.
Film Screening: Always in Season

Always in Season examines the case of Lennon Lacy, an African American teen who was found hanging in North Carolina, in 2014. Despite the death being ruled as a suicide, Lennon’s mother, Claudia, believes he was lynched. Claudia moves from paralyzing grief to leading the fight for justice for her son. In partnership with Indie Lens Pop Up Series- MPT/ ITVS.
