Happy New Year, my friends, and welcome to the very first newsletter of 2020!

It will be a bit different from our usual format. Instead of discussing a chart in detail, I'm going to give a quick overview of the year ahead in this newsletter and the next one (which I hope will go out later this week).

Keep them in a safe place, in case you want to reference the dates!

As the whole astrology community has been saying for some time now, 2020 looks to be a particularly momentous, transitional year here on planet Earth. Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto – three of the five "generational" outer planets, the planets that mold our culture at large – will be dancing together in the late degrees of Cap all year long.

The various conjunctions they'll form mark the beginnings of new 36-year, 13-year, and 20-year cycles. That means big change for us on the macro, global level, as well as in our own individual lives.

Where do the degrees of 22 Capricorn through 0 Aquarius fall in your natal chart? Whatever house or houses those degrees land in, whatever planets or angles are being triggered . . . you can expect big, structural change in *that* part of your life, starting THIS WEEK with the Saturn-Pluto conjunction on January 12th.

The last time that Saturn and Pluto met in Capricorn was January 3, 1518. In Europe, this marked the first phase of the Protestant Reformation, with the conjunction perfecting just a few weeks after Martin Luther nailed up his ninety-five theses. Saturn in Cap is institutional power and authority; keywords for Pluto include how power is used (including abuse of power), transformation, and the cycle of death-and-rebirth.

We know – or can Google – what happened with the Catholic Church in the late 16th century. Likewise, in our current world, we begin to see structures crumbling, tradition upended, cultures diverging and diversifying, folks being called to account for the way they use power. (I hope none of you have been out there selling indulgences!) Don't you just love astrology?

The last time that Saturn and Pluto met in any sign was November 7th, 1982, when their conjunction perfected at 27 degrees Libra. That aspect kicked off a new 36-plus-year work-and-power cycle in your life (or in the lives of your parents, if you're a young'n), which will conclude this week. Forward we go toward new horizons.

After the Saturn-Pluto conjunction at 22 degrees Capricorn on Sunday, January 12th, the *next* major outer-planet action comes from Jupiter and Pluto. The Kings of the Heavens and the Underworld, respectively, are scheduled to come together three times this year – more than once, because of their retrogrades.

First, Jupiter and Pluto will meet at 24 degrees Cap on April 4th, then again (with both planets retrograde) at the very same degree on June 30th, and finally, at 22 degrees Cap (the same degree as the Saturn-Pluto conjunction!) on November 12th. Depending on the astrologer, we could say that each of these conjunctions starts its own 13-year cycle, or that they collectively inform a single cycle. Notice how the energy shows up for *you* on April 4th, June 30th, and November 12th, 2020. It might be one project or situation with a beginning, middle, and end, or it could be the seeds of three separate stories. Time will tell.

The last time that Jupiter and Pluto met in any sign was December 11, 2007, when the subprime mortgage crisis began, and when we all put down roots for a thirteen year money-and-power cycle that will conclude, and start again, in 2020.

Then, finally, just a few weeks after the final Jupiter-Pluto conjunction on November 12th, Jupiter and Saturn will meet at 0 degrees Aquarius on December 21st, 2020. This aspect starts a new 20-year money-and-work cycle: the last Jupiter-Saturn conjunction was May 28th, 2000, and the next will be October 21, 2040.

That's a lot of information, and we haven't even gotten to Mars yet! I hope this gives you some idea at least of the big shifts I've been mentioning on the podcast.

I'll send more overview soon – and in the meantime, if you haven't already, I invite you to purchase the recordings and slides from my recent three-hour-long year-ahead webinar (details below) and/or to sign up for the free AstrologyHub 2020 Forecast Marathon that I'll be taking part in later this week.

It's a rocky road, but nothing you can't handle and thrive on. Wishing you the changes that your heart desires!

xo,
Anne
