We are also starting a new campaign called #SurvivingInside. Our CT Bail Fund Family Members are often forced to return to jail and prison, so we're growing our efforts and resources to support them and their loved ones while they’re incarcerated. The first way we'll be doing is this fundraising for commissary.
This will help our incarcerated community members afford items critical to their survival and well-being while in jail and prison. Many don’t know that prisons provide those incarcerated with very few critical items and resources. Prisons also run stores. Those who are incarcerated are then forced to buy basic necessary items like hygiene products and food from prison stores to supplement what’s given, and these products are sold at high prices. Being able to afford commissary means being able to survive inside. It means being able to build relationships of mutual support with others while incarcerated, because those on the inside often share what they’re able to afford with each other.
