RE: ARTICLE IN THE NEW HAVEN INDEPENDENT TODAY

  • The Mayor is still on the ballot Tuesday, November 5 on the Working Families Party line. She can still win but she needs all our help!
  • The article today is good in some ways, bad in others.
  • The Good: We need the word to get out about The People’s Campaign for Toni Harp. This article does that. People can find the People's Campaign on Facebook, join the group, and begin learning more about the election on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
  • The Bad: The article is confusing and continues the unfair portrayals of Mayor Harp we so often see in the media.
  • For example: The article juxtaposes Mayor Harp's social media savvy with her opponent, unfairly portraying her as never using Facebook before. But Toni N. Harp has 4,552 likes and thousands more on the articles and videos. The People's Campaign is standing on the shoulders of social media giants!
  • Furthermore, the article cherry-picks one of a very small number of posts that even mention Mayor Harp's opponent. This campaign is an act of love. We aren't focusing on anything other than Mayor Harp's substantial list of accomplishments and legacy.
  • Back to the Good: The article is an opportunity - a platform - to share more about the Mayor!
  • Leave a comment highlighting positivity about Mayor Harp. For example: Since 2013, Mayor Harp has brought the murder rate to an historic 50 year low and the high school graduation rate to an historic 50 year high. 👩‍🏫👨‍🎓👩‍🎓
  • Another: Her focus has been on youth with numerous successful youth programs that got a shout-out from President Obama.🇺🇸
  • One More: Under Mayor Harp's leadership we have seen 2,000 new units of affordable housing, the planned building of Michelle's House, the rebuilding of the Q House, new apprenticeship and training programs, and hundreds of new jobs for local New Haveners in new development.

A hundred-plus Mayor Toni Harp supporters have moved their advocacy for the three-term incumbent to Facebook, a digital realm largely untouched by the candidate over the course of her now-shuttered campaign.
