Black Revolutionary War veteran from New Haven to be celebrated


NEW HAVEN — Timothy Cesar, a black man from greater New Haven, fought for American freedom in the Revolutionary War.
On September 14, his descendents and local residents will celebrate his life and service with a 10 a.m. ceremony at Grove Street Cemetary.
Approximately 300 black men fought in the Continental Army, including Cesar, according to the modern-day 6th Connecticut Regiment, a non-profit re-enactment group.
