Dena N. Simmons, EdD, is the Assistant Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and an associate research scientist at the Yale Child Study Center. She writes and speaks nationally about creating safe and equitable schools where all students can thrive. Dr. Simmons has been profiled in numerous outlets including the Huffington PostEducation Week, and the AOL/PBS project, MAKERS: Women Who Make America. She is a recipient of a Harry S. Truman Scholarship, a Fulbright Fellowship, an Education Pioneers Fellowship, a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship, and a Pahara Aspen Education Fellowship among others. Her research interests include the intersection of culturally responsive practices and social and emotional learning for greater educational equity. She received her BA from Middlebury College, her MSEd from Pace University, and her MA and EdD from Teachers College, Columbia University.
