The members of the Elm City Freddy Fixer Parade Committee are proud to host the following special guests who will participate in the Elm City Freddy Fixer Parade on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Marching in the 1stDivision of this parade and representing the City of New Haven will be our very own Mayor Toni N. Harp.
Fred Smith, Jr., son of Dr. Fred F. Smith (Forefather of the Freddy Fixer Clean-up Campaign & Parade), will also join the parade procession in a convertible driven by William Kilpatrick (Vice Chair of New Haven Housing Authority). Moreover, Fred Smith, Jr. is being recognized by Hopkin’s High School Black Alumni Network as the oldest living alum at his 55th High School Reunion on June 1, 2019. He also holds a BA from Columbia, a JD from UCLA School of Law, an MSJ from Columbia Journalism School, and a Certificate in Internet Technology & Design from San Francisco State University’s Multimedia Studies Program where the building of a family history website about his father entitled, “Fred F. Smith, M.D.: Black Renaissance Man,” was Fred Smith, Jr.’s masters project.
Special Guests who will be positioned on the Elm City Freddy Fixer’s Parade Grandstand are represented by 15 Historically Black Colleges & University students and 5 faculty mentors who are visiting Yale University for an intensive week of workshops hosted by the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, Yale University, and generously funded by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation.
Grand Marshal of the 2019 Elm City Freddy Fixer Parade and leading the procession of the 75 registered marching units is the Connecticut Center for Arts & Technology (CONNCAT). CONNCAT’s organizational mission is to inspire, motivate, and prepare youth and adults for educational and career advancement, through afterschool arts, and job training programming.
The Elm City Freddy Fixer Parade Weekend, #freddyweekend, kicks off on Friday, May 31, 2019 with a Live Jazz Hour, as well as the following weekend activities:
