Telling Stories of Life and Medicine in the 11th Hour

April 19, 2019

Dear Tom,

When serious illness strikes, family members are too often left to watch their loved one suffer in pain until their final days.

But there's a growing movement to rethink that journey from diagnosis to death. Doctors, patients and advocates are pushing our health care system to do a better job of providing comfort and meaning during life's final chapter. Even so, in many families crucial conversations about end-of-life wishes have yet to take place.

We think it's a universal human story worth covering, which is why we're hosting a webinar on April 23 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, where we'll hear from Dr. Sunita Puri, a gifted storyteller and leading practitioner of palliative care, and Fran Smith, a Pulitzer-winning journalist who has written extensively on end-of-life care and hospice.

Journalists will come away from this webinar with a better understanding of why these critical topics are worthy of deeper coverage, and how powerful and clarifying end-of-life stories can be.
