TEACHER OF THE YEAR CALLS FOR EQUITY: Robinson tells POLITICO he's ready to use his new platform to “shout it from the rooftop” that kids need economic and cultural equity. That means making sure students who need more “get a little more” and that they’re taught by teachers who look like them and value their culture, he said.
— Robinson, a social studies teacher in a juvenile detention center in Richmond, Va., will spend a year traveling nationally and internationally to represent educators. He plans to tell federal and state leaders “we need fully equitably funded schools in order for kids to have a chance of success in America.” A graduate of Virginia State University, Robinson said he’ll also push for more funding for historically black universities and colleges as well as promote “how wonderful a profession teaching is.”
