Hamden, Conn. – April 24, 2019 – Global Kids, a youth organization from New York City, will visit Quinnipiac University on Thursday, April 25.
The mission of Global Kids is to educate, activate and inspire youth from underserved communities to take action on critical issues facing the world.
Jonah Warren, assistant professor of game design and development at Quinnipiac, collaborated with Global Kids on an educational game titled, “Ayiti: The Cost of Life.” The game, released in 2006 and still used in global studies classrooms, allows the player to make decisions for a family living in poverty in Haiti. Warren recently reconnected with Global Kids and helped plan the visit as a part of the organization’s college tour initiative.
Members of Global Kids will have the opportunity to visit Warren’s game design class from 12:30-1:45 p.m. and playtest games made by Quinnipiac students. Playtesting will give the visitors a chance to meaningfully contribute to the class and give Quinnipiac students additional feedback on their games.
“It is important for game design students to engage with different audiences and see how they react to the games they create,” Warren said. “Playtesting is crucial in game design, which entails a lot of careful observation, listening and reading between the lines. It is also a great way for aspiring game designers to be introduced to the process of creating games.”
