Day 3 at the Skoll World Forum

Enjoy the highlights from this invigorating, inspiring, and unforgettable week!
Creative, ambitious social entrepreneurs and innovators gathered in Oxford for the 2019 Skoll World Forum to inspire and challenge each other to confront the greatest global challenges. We heard from community leaders, activists, social entrepreneurs, and innovators who brought courage and a profound appreciation of our shared challenges to Accelerate Possibility at the 2019 Skoll World Forum.

The closing plenary speakers crystallized the spirit of the Forum with their grit, creativity, passion, and purpose.
Christiane Amanpour, Chief International Anchor for CNN, joined Pat Mitchell, Skoll Foundation Board member, in a discussion about the role of journalism and truth-telling in an era of seismic shifts. "Truthful, not neutral," she told the audience at New Theatre. In a nod to the work of social entrepreneurs, she also shared her conviction that there's great value in stories of solutions.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, actor, director, and writer of the film The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind joined Doc Society's Jess Search in a wide-ranging conversation about storytelling for social change and the power of education. "This idea of investing in education, even if it seems like a drop in the ocean, it really isn't," he told the crowd. "You can have these incredible impacts."
Kumi NaidooSouth African-born human rights activist and head of Amnesty International, offered a rousing closing to an unforgettable week. He talked about the intersection of politics, culture, and social change. “As culture makers, we need to recognize that this is the time for creative maladjustment,” he said in reference to a lesser-known speech Martin Luther King, Jr. made in the last year of his life. "Who is rising up to meet this challenge?" he asked. "It’s our children. Those are the voices we need to elevate."
