Interested in drones, the environment or technology? Join Dyan Medina Gibbens, co-founder of Trumbull Unmanned, a company that flies unmanned vehicles (drones) for the oil and gas industry. After attending the US Air Force Academy, she earned a PhD in industrial engineering and has since spoken at the White House and US Senate. Dyan Gibbens will discuss the use of drones for environmental applications and research, high-risk operations, and counter-UAS technology. Dyan brings her unique experience as a military veteran and Latina entrepreneur in a male dominated industry. After her lecture, there will also be an indoor drone demonstration! Registration required at onhsa.yale.edu/drones2018.

Resonance is an annual full-day science event for high school students. The event is hosted by Synapse, a Yale College organization. Join us for a day of hands-on demonstrations, presentations by Yale College and Graduate students, and opportunity to engage in small-group discussions on overcoming adversities in the field of science. Breaking away from traditional scientific teaching, Resonance presents science in a way that is applicable to our daily lives and future goals of pursuing diverse careers in science. What is science exactly? Where did it come from? Rather than telling you, let us immerse you in all Yale has to offer for a whole day. By the end, we promise science will resonate with you. Lunch will be served. Registration required at onhsa.yale.edu/resonance2018

NACLO @ Yale Practice Session

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2:00PM - 4:00PM
370 TEMPLE STREET, ROOM 215
OPEN TO STUDENTS IN GRADES 7 - 12
REGISTRATION REQUIRED AT ONHSA.YALE.EDU/NACLO2018

Are you a student with a knack for languages, logic and computational thinking? Would you like to try your hand at deciphering an ancient script or deducing the logical patterns of Swahili or Hawaiian? If so, then you should participate in NACLO! NACLO stands for the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad. It is a contest for high school and middle school students in which they are asked to solve linguistics problems drawn from a variety of languages. Only logic and reasoning skills are necessary; no prior knowledge of particular languages or linguistics is required. Yale offers practice sessions to prepare students for the Open Round Competition in January. To register for the next practice session on Sunday, December 9th, visit onhsa.yale.edu/naclo2018
