Casey Seeks Young Leaders for Juvenile Justice Youth Council

The Casey Foundation seeks emerging leaders — ages 18 to 25 — from around the country to apply for the 2019–21 Juvenile Justice Youth Advisory Council. Council members will support and contribute to a national juvenile justice reform movement, lifting up their own expertise and current or past experiences with the system. These young people will work closely with the Foundation's juvenile justice team and with state and local leaders to improve the well-being of those served by the youth justice system.
webinar about the council and its application process is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Juvenile Justice Pros Take the Equity Challenge

Last month, more than 850 juvenile justice professionals from across the country made equity part of their everyday routines through the 21-Day Equity Habit-Building Challenge. Each day during the effort, participants took one equity-related action, such as watching a relevant video or hosting a conversation.

Leaders in a number of Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative® sites initiated the challenge with members of JDAIconnect, an online community of juvenile justice reformers. The goal? Giving participants time and space to be more mindful of power and privilege, which may, in turn, help shine a spotlight on the racial and ethnic disparities inherent in the juvenile justice system.
