Welcome to the Black Business School.
Hello, I'm Dr Boyce Watkins, Dean of The Black Business School (BBS) and The Black Wealth Bootcamp.
Before I get to the nitty gritty, let me tell you a little about myself and why I've created this platform for the promotion of Black Financial Literacy and African American economic survival.
After finishing my PhD in Finance, I wrote numerous research papers, books and articles, and also appeared in national media over 1,000 times during the next decade. Much of this work was related to one of two things: Wealth-building and/or race.
These topics aren't always of interest in many American universities, including some HBCUs. So, I founded The Black Business School after teaching on college campuses for the last 20 years and being concerned about what I was seeing.
Three things that always frustrated me about major universities were the fact that:
a) Most of the professors aren't black. This means that they can't always relate to us or the needs of our community. Most black college students at white universities are woefully unfulfilled by the experience. In many years of undergraduate and obtaining my PhD, I personally never had even one single black professor.
b) The cost of college tuition has spiraled out of control (as high as $50,000 per year at many universities), leading many students to literally die in debt. In fact, the average black college graduate has not been able to pay down their student loan balance one bit since graduation, and half of them have defaulted. This not only strips them of their wealth, but it makes it difficult to build wealth as a homeowner.
c) Most business school professors have never actually run a business, which is critical for African Americans, who aren't welcome into the American economic system as readily as we would be if we were white. This presents a unique set of obstacles as we find ways to build wealth, develop institutions and provide for our families.
The Black Business School was designed to provide a low-cost, high-quality alternative to the over-priced, under-performing universities that many of us have attended in the past.
So, rather than racking up $80,000 in student loan debt after learning from non-black professors who've never run a business (as I've seen in many American business schools over the years), The Black Business School offers you the opportunity to learn from leading experts who not only have real business experience, but also come from your community.
The layout of The Black Business School is relatively straight-forward. Some of the content is free, and some of it comes with a small fee attached. You can check out all of the course offerings at this link:
TheBlackBusinessSchool.com
If you haven't yet joined the BBS, you can do so for free by entering your name and email address. After that, you are free to select any course you'd like to take. We have courses for adults and children, so our goal is to educate the whole family.
You can see the courses being offered by visiting TheBlackBusinessSchool.com, scrolling down and clicking the link that says, "View all courses." This will show you all classes available and give you the option to pay monthly tuition that is typically lower than $150 per month, a price you won't find at any major university anywhere.
As I promised you before, you can also download a free ecopy of my book, "Black American Money." Pick up your copy here.
Once again, welcome to The Black Business School. I look forward to working with you in the future.
Sincerely, Dr Boyce Watkins TheBlackBusinessSchool.com |
