Embrace Race July 2018

JULY 2018
Hi friends!

Welcome to your community of support for raising kids who are thoughtful, informed and brave about race. It’s been a minute! Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy trying to grow our capacity and our offerings at EmbraceRace to meet the considerable demands of this moment and of this work more broadly. (More on *that* in the months ahead!)
We include this picture of Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther!) and Congresswoman Maxine Waters (speaking out despite considerable efforts to shut her up) meeting at Los Angeles City Hall for the #FamiliesBelongTogether protest this week because it made us happy. It's a good reminder for us and for kids that there are many, many superheroes among us; they come in all ages, colors, shape and sizes. We know that countering racialized injustice is a big time challenge. It's good to be reminded that the strength and love we see and feel and need to meet that challenge are all around us.

Read on to catch up on this month in EmbraceRace and to get our top race and kids tidbits from around the web. We're also highlighting additional ways for you to plug into this community. Onward and upward!

We had a great conversation with Professor Daren Graves and many of you last week on Talking Race & Kids. The session was called: Nurturing Excellence at School: A Racial Identity Based Approach. Find the video and resources from that conversation and other conversations at the Talking Race & Kids archives.

On July 24th, we're excited to host Parenting for Equity in St. Louis After #Ferguson. Come on by - and, if you can't, register anyway and we'll send you a link to the recording later.
