“America’s Original Sin and the Bridge to a New America” is the theme of a public conversation at Yale Divinity School with Jim Wallis, the founder of the famous Sojourners community in Washington, D.C., and the publisher of Sojourners magazine
Students, faculty, staff, and the greater Yale and New Haven communities are invited to the event, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, in the YDS Common Room. Associate Dean Bill Goettler will moderate.
Wallis has been at the forefront of faith-based activism and advocacy for decades. The magazine has print and online readership of more than 5 million people.
In addition to editing the magazine, Wallis reaches an international audience through speaking and media appearances. He served on President Obama's White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and currently serves on the Global Agenda Council on Values of the World Economic Forum.
Wallis is the author of 12 books. His most recent, America's Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America, was released last year. Among his other books are On God’s Side: What Religion Forgets and Politics Hasn’t Learned About Serving the Common Good; Rediscovering Values: A Guide for Economic and Moral Recovery; The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America; and God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It.
Wallis will be at YDS to guest-lecture in the school’s program in Transformational Leadership in Church and Society. More on Jim Wallis and his work can be found here.
The public conversation will be streamed live on the YDS Livestream page and available after the event on YouTube.
