OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT BEGINS

OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT BEGINS TODAY

Open enrollment runs through December 22 in Connecticut for new and existing consumers.

(New Haven, Conn.) – Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act begins today, November 1, 2017. This is the time for new and existing consumers to sign up for insurance or review their insurance options.

“Accidents happen. People get sick. Insurance protects you and your family, which means you can get the care you need without huge medical bills,” said Kafi Rouse, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. “Getting insurance means you can see a range of health care providers when you need to. It also means you can get preventive care – including birth control and breast and cervical cancer screenings – for free, without a copay.”

Open enrollment ends December 22 in Connecticut through Access Health CT. The Affordable Care Act (ACA), sometimes called “Obamacare” or “the Health Care Law,” has made health insurance accessible and affordable for millions of people. The law includes important benefits for all Americans, such as: the ability to stay on your parents’ health insurance plan until age 26; insurers can no longer deny you coverage if you have a pre-existing condition; and making birth control and other preventive care, like cancer screenings, for free, with no copay.

According to the Urban Institute and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, without the ACA, nearly 250,000 people in Connecticut would become uninsured. Additionally, a recent national poll by Hart Research of consumers with coverage through the Affordable Care Act found that 98 percent of insured consumers said it was important to have health insurance, and 87 percent are satisfied with their benefits and coverage.

“There’s been a lot of conversation around health insurance this year, but just like in previous years, you’re still able to sign up for coverage. The Affordable Care Act remains the law. Even if you’ve looked before, health insurance plans and costs change every year, and you could get financial assistance that can help lower the costs,” said Rouse. “The doors of Planned Parenthood are open to everyone – whether or not they have insurance. All people can come to us for the expert, high-quality care they need, when they need it.”
