New Haven Symphony Orchestra lands $80,000 diversity grant for string fellows:
NEW HAVEN >> A newly announced grant will help the New Haven Symphony Orchestra recruit more diversity for its string section.
The $80,000 grant is one of just 21 nationwide from the League of American Orchestras’ American Orchestras’ Futures Fund.
The innovation grant, paid over two years and made possible by the generosity of the Ann & Gordon Getty Foundation, will support the launch of a string fellowship program to encourage inclusion and diversity in the concert hall and across the community, according to a release.
The fellows will be musicians who are early in their careers and during the program they will receive career support from the NHSO musicians that they work with, a spokeswoman said.
