You would help enforce the City of New Haven’s laws (and related federal and state laws) regarding (1) equal employment opportunity; (2) hiring, recruitment, and training goals regarding affirmative action; and (3) prevailing wages.
You would do this in part by: (1) explaining to contractors what they must do to comply, (2) conducting surprise inspections at their construction sites, (3) investigating potential violations, and (4) recommending remedial action or penalties as appropriate.
You would also compile workforce participation records, and you would report on the progress, trends, and results of a single project or of all projects under your charge, among other things.
You would be expected to organize issues, facts, statistics and evidence and present them clearly and logically, orally and in writing. You must know how to use computer and standard business software/programs to complete your work tasks.
You would maintain effective working relationships with contractors, public officials, labor unions, and the general public. New Haven-specific knowledge would be a plus.
