Tom --

Good afternoon!
Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 at 6pm. Please RSVP on our website! Bring a friend (or 2 or 3!), we are trying to grow this effort! We will be having some legislators attend as well.

An Act Addressing Housing Segregation has been filed! In anticipation of a rollback of federal fair housing and civil rights protections, OCA's goal for 2017 is to advance the creation of stronger and more comprehensive state fair housing policies. With the support of a number of legislators, we will be supporting An Act Addressing Housing Segregation, the placeholder language for which was introduced on Friday, January 13th. This will be a comprehensive bill designed to reverse Connecticut's segregated living patterns and create greater affordable housing choices. Details on these policies are available on the Resources page (2017 General Policy Agenda Fact Sheet).

We still need your help!
  • Host a house party! Are you interested in hosting a small gathering at your home to invite your legislator to learn about our work? Hearing from constituents in their town is the best way to affect a legislator's position. Several people have indicated an interest in hosting house parties, we have Bridgeport, Hartford, Middletown, Manchester/Glastonbury, and West Hartford covered. New Haven and Norwalk would also be good, let us know if you are interested!
  • Write an op-ed. Are you interested in writing an op-ed on these issues? We've taken the time to put together sample language, if you don't know where to start. If you'd like to write your own, we are also happy to work with you on it! This could be adjusted to serve as written or oral testimony at the legislature as well!
  • Connect us to a legislator. Do you have a connection to key legislators or government officials? We'd love to know!
Materials for helping us take action are available on our resources page.
