DeLauro Statement on Trump Nominating Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement regarding Judge Neil Gorsuch, President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court.
“Let me be very clear, Senate Republicans stole a Supreme Court seat in rejecting Judge Garland. The actions by Majority Leader McConnell and his fellow Republicans were unconscionable, and their failure to follow historic precedent will result in decades of radical far-right decisions from the nation’s highest court. President Trump has already shown that he is willing to bend constitutional powers to their limits and in some cases break them. We must have a strong voice on the Supreme Court who is willing to keep the President’s actions in check and that voice cannot be Justice Gorsuch.
"As evidenced by his past rulings and statements on health care, the environment, women's health, immigration, labor, gay rights, and civil rights, Judge Gorsuch threatens to undo years of progress and be a right-wing and regressive voice from the bench. We need a Supreme Court justice who will defend the inalienable rights of all Americans, not just the privileged few. Over the course of his career, Judge Gorsuch has been an activist judge and I strongly urge my colleagues in the Senate to vote against his confirmation and stop both Judge Gorsuch and President Trump from pushing a conservative agenda on the Supreme Court."
