View this email in your browser HARLEM LIBERATION SCHOOL NEWS "Wake up, Clean up, and Stand up!" December 15, 2016 UPCOMING KWANZAA EVENTS IN HARLEM! Peace, blessings, and Black power! As you know, we are approaching the Kwanzaa holiday season! This important Black holiday allows us the opportunity to acknowledge and practice important principles that lead to Black empowerment. The village of Harlem recognizes the importance of this holiday wirh an assortment of events. We are highlighting two, but we encourage you to look up others. 1. Saturday December 17, 2016: A call for Black people in Harlem and Brooklyn to open accounts at Carver Bank. In the spirt of the fourth principle of Kwanzaa -Ujamaa or cooperative economics - the XyayX Movement calls on brothers and sisters to open accounts in a Black bank, specifically at Carver Bank! For more details, review the flier below: 2. Wednesday December 28, 2016: The Circle of Brothers 6th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration. For the sixth straight year, Harlem's Circle of Brothers organization holds its much-anticipated annual Kwanzaa celebration, centered around the third Kwanzaa principle of Ujima, or collective work and responsibility.  This event will feature African drummers, poetry performances, martial arts demonstrations, and the opportunity to purchase items from various community vendors. Food will be available. The keynote speaker for the event will be Harlem educator, author, and activist Agyei Tyehimba. Where we meet: 2031 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard (Between 121st and 122nd Streets) When we meet: The second and last Monday of every month 6-8pm Vending Opportunities Harlem Liberation School values our  street vendors and other Black entreprenuers. We provide limited vending space which appropriate vendors can use to sell their products during HLS events for a $10 fee payable when you arrive. Those interested should call 347-806-9384 to check availability three days prior to an event.  December 26, 2016 - Harlem Liberation School Founder/Director Agyei Tyehimba discusses, "We are at War: An Outline for Victory in the Trump Era." February 13, 2016 - "Hidden Colors" star, educator and author Professor Kaba Kamene, discusses "Preparing Ourselves for the 21st Century: Culture, Curriculum and Consciousness." From 5pm-6pm, Kaba  will host an open community discussion where all attendees can discuss issues of importance to them. From 6:30pm-7:30pm, Kaba will give his presentation. From 7:30-8:00pm, Brother Kaba will sell and sign his new book, "Honoring Professor William Leo Hansberry."  You must register for a free ticket to attend this event. February 27, 2016 - YouTube sensation, Street Scholar and entreprenuer "Blue Pill," speaks! The title is yet to be determined.
