Health Equity Solutions

In 2016, we started our campaign to advocate for an end to health inequities in Connecticut, but our fight has just begun. According to the America's County Health Rankings, Connecticut ranks 42nd in health disparities. We can do better than that.  The election results in November also exhibited the challenges ahead. With the Affordable Care Act in jeopardy and Medicaid cuts on the horizon, we have to double our efforts. We can’t stand by while hundreds of thousands of Connecticut families lose their access to the health care that is keeping them alive. We can’t afford to go backward when there is so much at stake. We will stand firm to protect everyone who needs access to health care while working to end the systematic inequities that lead to many Connecticut residents not reaching their healthiest potential. While we face challenges in the year ahead, we also wanted to share with you what we achieved in 2016. We launched Health Equity Solutions, and we began building a base of activists across Connecticut committed to greater health equity. We have spread awareness, led several educational briefings, and advocated for policy solutions that will advance health equity.   Sharing our vision for health equity in Connecticut at  HES Launch event at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford in January.  Program Manager, Claudine Constant, giving a training along with Executive Director, Tekisha Everette, at the Connecticut Health Network. This training explained health equity and the social determinants of health and it direct connection with Hartford, CT. We trained over 100 activists about health equity and advocacy in cities across Connecticut. Our team has spoken to dozens of groups about the need to address health equity in Connecticut, supported legislative policies to address cultural competence and advocated for health equity at the highest levels of state government. In 2017, we will build on all the work we did this year to ensure we have a Connecticut where everyone can live a healthy life. I am grateful for all of your support of Health Equity Solutions.
