Peaceful Demonstration of Democracy Against the President Elect: New Haven
Sunday  November 13 at 2 PM
New Haven Superior Court
235 Church Street, New Haven, Connecticut 06510
Please, join us on Sunday, November 13, 2016, on the steps of the New Haven Superior Court for a peaceful demonstration.
We have decided to give words some life with the action of organizing a peaceful, purposeful protest this Sunday, downtown New Haven.
We are against the president elect because his goals and values do not respect our basic human rights. Our lives are not a reality show for entertainment. He has waged an attack on countless communities based on nothing more than hyperbole and baseless fear.
Nothing can be accomplished if we are not seen as human first.
The common human purpose is to be loved and accepted. We want to work together to make that happen.
Our civic responsibility does not stop with voting. We need to make ourselves known to local politicians. Local politicians take our voices to the White House, if our voices are loud enough. Legislation starts in our own backyard. It is important to take care of our community and to take care of each other.
If we want change, we have to ask for it.
If we want change, we have to show up.
If we want change, we have to commit.
If we want change, we have to put ourselves in the shoes of others and act with compassion.
We might be angry, we might be devastated but, and we cannot emphasize this enough, we want to protest PEACEFULLY and WITH PURPOSE. Leave the attacks at home, take them to the punching back at the gym; please don’t bring them with you. Character attacks, warranted or not, take the focus and time away from our goal. We want to focus on the ISSUES. We don’t have time for anything else. We can’t work on issues until we know who represents us. We want local politicians to pay attention to us and to learn what it is that we want. We want to be loud enough that they have no choice but to stop and ask, what is so important to you that you need to assemble on such a large scale? We want them to know us and put faces to the numbers.
We are more than numbers, we are more than statistics, we are humans, each
