GALLERY TALK Jacob Lawrence and the Legend of John Brown Wednesday, November 16, 12:30 pm As the Civil War–era song suggests, John Brown’s soul marched on well beyond his death in 1859. Using Jacob Lawrence’s screenprints as a point of departure, Rebecca Szantyr, the Florence B. Selden Fellow in the Department of Prints and Drawings, considers Brown’s legacy, examining the position that the 19th-century abolitionist visionary has held in the fine arts and in popular imagination. Space is limited. Please meet in the Gallery lobby. View The Legend of John Brown Print Suite > |
