The Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities will kick off its second annual Leaders and Legends Awards Ceremony at the end of November. Awards will be presented to six of Connecticut’s civil rights leaders and legends, who are distinguished in their communities for promoting equality and fairness. Each award celebrates diversity and inclusion in different categories.

The Alvin W. Penn Award for Excellence in Leadership

The Katharine Hepburn Award for Using Media as a Platform for Social Change

The Constance Baker Motley Award for Excellence in Business or Law
Prof. Jon Bauer

The Maria Colon Sanchez Award for Community Activism

The Edythe J. Gaines Award for Inclusive Education
Asst. Prof. Linda K. Barry, M.D.

The Mario and Janet Vigezzi Award for Social Justice
Sen. Ed Gomes

The Leaders and Legends Awards Ceremony will be held on November 17, 2016 from 3-5pm in the Old Judiciary Room at the Connecticut State Capitol. The event is free and open to the public, light refreshments will be served.
