STAND TOGETHER RALLY TO BE HELD IN NEW HAVEN,
IN RESPONSE TO RECENT RACIAL TENSIONS AND POLICE VIOLENCE
New Haven, Conn. – July 8, 2016 – In light of the recent police brutality shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile – among many others – and the recent shootings of 11 police officers in Dallas, TX, Varick Memorial AME Zion Church is gathering with city officials, community organizations, and New Haven residents to rally for justice, equality and unity.
“This is beyond all the individual movements, this is about joining together, collectively, and having this conversation. It’s about [all of us] getting together to create the change we so desperately need in our community and in the world,” says Eldren Morrison, Pastor of Varick Memorial.
“STAND TOGETHER”, the theme for the rally, hopes to bring together collective minds to discuss creating local and national change; to facilitate open, honest dialogue with police officers and command staff; and to encourage us all to STAND TOGETHER in solidarity.
