EXCLUSIVE: NYPD to develop 'implicit bias' training curriculum - NY Daily News:

"A noted academic who studies "implicit bias" is working with the NYPD to develop a training curriculum for the nation's largest police force, the Daily News has learned.

A police source said Dr. Phillip Goff, co-founder of the Center for Policing Equity, met with NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton and his executive staff in 2014 to talk about biased judgments made subconsciously.

Unlike explicit bias, or overt racism, which involves knowingly discriminating against someone, implicit bias is more subtle and can often be measured by word association tests in which test takers, for instance, are asked to use positive or negative words to describe white faces and black faces.

Goff, who was recently appointed to a professorship at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, wowed the top cop and others, the source said."
