PAUL ROBESON
Paul Robeson was a world famous actor, a unique singer with tremendous range, the first professional concert singer in history to use Negro spirituals in his performances. He was an outspoken leader for civil rights before the Civil Rights Campaign. He was an all-American football player, professional football player, Phi Beta Kappa scholar, and lawyer. He was an eclectic thinker, a prolific writer and a linguist having studied more than 20 languages.
Robeson became the most famous target of the McCarthy witch hunt because of his courageous activism. After having sung before millions globally, his passport was revoked and a boycott by the concert halls, left only local churches as his audience.
