CHRO to host Health Symposium: Barriers to Health Equity



Hartford, CT. June 24, 2016 - The Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO), with the UConn Health Disparities Institute as a co-sponsor, will be hosting a health symposium - Barriers to Health Equality on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Legislative Office Building (Room TBD) located at 300 Capitol avenue, Hartford, CT 06106. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.



The symposium will include a discussion-style panel with community leaders, health care professionals, health insurance administrators, advocates, and political leaders. Panelists will discuss health care barriers for marginalized groups and how the state can help ensure that everyone has equal and sufficient access to health care. Topics will include access to health insurance, nutrition, and mental health treatment, as well as gun violence and housing discrimination.

CHRO staff will be present at the event to provide information about how to file a complaint of discrimination.
