The Duels

There is a play currently on Broadway that is sweeping the nation, school systems and I tunes, pertaining to the embryonic controversies of a young nation, which even at that time was fraught with intrigue, media barbs, "hateration" , philosophical disputes and duels.

"Hamilton" is so popular in my opinion for it provides a nostalgic escape from this current nadir in the American political system. Hamilton

Perhaps the seeming cesspool of current political campaigning ( and I am referring to both sides)
is not new.

Certainly the system stunk up the nation prior to women not being allowed to vote. ( How could we have called the "United-Male Only" states a democracy prior to 1919.

Certainly the system stunk prior to the Voting Rights Acts of the 1960's ( How could we still have needed a voting rights act after Crispus Attucks, the Tuskeegee Airmen, the Harlem Hell Fighters and Dorie Miller pledged their  patriotic loyalty oath with their blood?)

Perhaps the trumped up stench on the republican side  and the banal "who said what diatribe" between Sanders and Clinton is not as elementary school as it appears.

Rumor has it that this is 2016, not 1816, or 1916. And yet I am reminded that  we should remember that Sarah Palin could have become president.

Spiro Agnew could have become president.

Barry Goldwater could have become president

I am not wishing in retrospect the untimely demise in office of John McCain( Should he had won) or Richard Nixon.

It is my hope and I will admit that I am an optimist, that there is only one basic question for me that the candidates on both sides should address:

How do we create peace . Peace on earth, peace in America, peace in your home, peace in your place of business, peace in your non-profit and peace in your heart.

These every four year American duels that we call elections, always seem to create casualties and wounded losers.

Will the 2016 "Victor" lead America or just continue to preside over the ideological civil war which began in 1776 !
