Dear Colleagues,
February is Black History Month. YDS is celebrating it by featuring an outstanding black alum each day on Facebook andTwitter (29 distinguished alumni). Please note the hashtag:#YDS29. We encourage you to honor additional distinguished alums in your own postings.
We have also loaded a rotating display of 46 outstanding black alumni on the video monitor near the main entrance to the Divinity School. These snap shots will give you an idea of the careers and contributions of previous generations who have represented themselves and the School exceptionally well. There are more stories of distinguished alumni than we have been able to compile to date.
We are deeply grateful to Lecia Allman '16 M.Div., who has led the effort to assemble this amazing resource. Lecia has worked with Yolanda Smith in the project "Been in the Storm So Long." We will continue to add stories over time. I hope that you find these lives as challenging and inspiring as I do.
Also in honor of Black History Month, YDS is hosting our annual Parks-King Lecture on Tuesday, February 23rd, featuring a speaker who is familiar to many of you: Emilie Townes, former Professor and Associate Dean at YDS, now Dean of Vanderbilt Divinity School. I urge you to join us for her lecture at 5:30 pm in Marquand Chapel or onLiveStream. Best wishes,
Greg Sterling |
