New Haven – Thomas Lane is the 18th person to die after being Tased by police in Connecticut since 2005. Although we do not know all the facts about this incident the mounting number of Taser related deaths demonstrates the need for greater transparency and oversight regarding taser use in Connecticut. Governor Malloy and the legislature must mandate that all tasers be equipped with readily available cameras that will automatically record audio and video of all taser incidents. Police departments must also make the already mandated Taser use of force reports available to the public immediately after fatal incidents..
