The Hartt School's Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz of the University of Hartford, in collaboration with the University's Africana Studies Program, College of Arts and Sciences, and Hillyer College are honored to welcome to campus the dynamic activist, academic and thought-leader Cornel West for a series of lectures on Wednesday, Feb. 10. The program is presented as a Black History Month event and is free and open to the public, though seating is very limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. West will begin the daylong program with a lecture speaking to the historic impact of black-influenced music on social justice movements from the Civil Rights Era though today, at 10 a.m. in Wilde Auditorium on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. At 2 p.m. at the University's Hillyer College Shaw Center, Dr. West will offer a discussion and workshop for student groups focusing on current issues of race and social justice in America and potential strategies for addressing them. "
