This Saturday evening, January 23, 7:30 p.m., the Jung Society of Atlanta presents a lecture, "C.G. Jung and Howard Thurman Speaking on Dismantling Inner Oppressors to Create Outer Liberation" by Catherine Meeks, Ph.D. Dr. Meeks is the retired Clara Carter Distinguished Professor of SocioCultural Studies and Social Science at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga. She is also an author, journalist, and community activist who is involved with prison work including working for the abolition of the death penalty and with homeless issues. She has spent many years studying the work of Jung and Thurman.
About her lecture, she says, "...I have spent much time thinking about the ways we can bring healing to America across lines of difference and in particular in relationship to race...I have come to the conclusion that the work of dismantling oppression is challenging and complex." She says that activists typically begin their work in the public arena and that this work must have a companion piece of inner work to create true and sustainable liberation. Her lecture will address," Where are we going now? What can we do to build a world where inner liberation supports the quest for outer liberation? Where are the signs of hope?"
