A little over 60 years ago on December 24, 1955, my father Alfred “Tup” Holmes, my uncle, Rev. Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Charles Bell integrated the North Fulton Golf Course (Chastain Park) in Atlanta. They had been expected to attempt the integration at the Bobby Jones Golf Course where a jeering crowd was expected. They notified the national press and played without incident. The Supreme Court had directed the integration of Atlanta Golf Courses on November 7, 1955.
