Program Description: Recent efforts to provide more targeted content bundles to consumers,

Program Description: In the sixties, the telephone tree was commonly used to mobilize
individuals towards planned, non-violent protest activities. It took the hard work of the United
Church of Christ to move WLBT to televise the protests taking place in Jackson, MS. Today, the
revolution is being broadcast on social media and daily acts of police brutality are showing up
on social media that include Facebook and Twitter. Hear from a panel of old and new civil
rights activists that will share how new media is transforming social justice efforts and whether
these tools will bring about the same type of pivotal movement for civil rights.

Program Description: The term “digital divide” has come full circle with the White House and
the NTIA recently releasing a report summarizing that too many Americans are still being left
behind. Moreover, the Federal Communications Commission is set to modernize its Lifeline

“Ownership Still Matters: Developing the Pipeline of Entrepreneurs”
2:30pm-4:00pm
Location: Senate
Program Track: Ownership
Program Description: Increasing minority ownership in the media, telecom and high-tech fields
still matters. When more people of color are represented, the chances of wealth opportunities
are likely increased as these entrepreneurs and business owners hire from within their own
cultures and communities. Given the backdrop of the lack of diversity in the high-tech fields and
the rapid revenue jumps among established media and telecom companies, how do we foster
opportunities for minority ownership and engage more individuals in the pipeline? Hear from a
panel of experts that will share concerns from pipeline development to the types of products and
services that should be promoted by minority-owned businesses.

Afternoon Session III
“SPORTS, MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY – The New Way to Play”
2:30pm-4:00pm
Location: Statler A
Program Track: Sports
Speaker: Kevin Blackinstone
Program Description: Sports, Media and Technology are three sides of a common power
paradigm, revealing human nature, culture and community in a manner that no other aspect of
society can touch. The ongoing evolution of their synergy and collaboration has created an
environment and platform that impacts and influences are world like no other genre.
The public's voracious appetite for sports -- fed by the increased coverage that cable and the
Internet provide -- has in turn created an around the clock barrage of sports images and
information. The days when sport could only be watched on one of a handful of terrestrial
television channels have long gone. The new media explosion does more than begin to make
“any sport, any event, any time, any device” a viable reality for the fan. The list of possible
outlets for sport is seemingly endless: high definition and 3D television, IPTV, mobile phones,
YouTube, web streaming, digital radio, iPlayer, games consoles, and social networking sites.
The Internet is now such a significant medium for sport coverage, allowing fans to access the
latest news about their favorite team, sport or event. The technology and means available for
delivering sport to different sections of society is continuing to rapidly grow. Changes in
contemporary technologies and the economics of the broadcast and print media have
contributed significantly to an expansion in the volume of sports texts and to the emergence of
new styles of sports writing.
This SPORTS, MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY forum will examine the intersection of these three
phenomenal platforms, and their impact on each specific arena. We will hear from Pro Athletes,
Media Personalities, Technology experts and others within the Sports, Media and Technology
space that will engage in an insightful dialogue on the effects that each one of these venues
positively and in some cases negatively affect each other and our world.
Networking Break - 4:00pm – 4:20pm
